Itinerary description

A good walk through some of the fields & forests around Hollenfels

Waypoints

Hollenfels chapel

Start & End point of the walk. Parking nearby in front of the youth hostal.

Hollenfels / Schoul

Bus stop in front of the old school of Hollenfels.

Fork in the small road

This begins just right, off the main road. Go straight (left) at this fork. You will eventually be returning from the right. This is where the loop begins.

Private garden

A lovely, surprising garden surrounded by fields.

View of the stable in the fields

There are often 2 or 3 horses here.

Stable

Usually with 2 or 3 horses somewhere around.

Tiny lake

Tiny little lake where there can seasonally be a lot of frogs (Spring/Summer).

Turn right

At the “T” junction at end of this little road

Intersection

Tempting as it may be, this dirt road is NOT where you turn right just yet.

Turn right AFTER tiny forest

Turn right at this little crossroads just after the tiny forest, NOT down the dirt road before it.

Stay on the road

Do NOT take the track to the right. It just leads into fields. Stay on the road.

Into the forest

A shelter, picnic table and little religious statue signal the end of the tarmac road and the beginning of the forest trail.

Turn right onto the little foot path off the main path.

This can be a little tricky to spot. It is a single path down to the right shortly after some fences on the right.

Keep left at this fork in the path

When you come to a fork, keep LEFT. The main path seems to go right but there is still a little trail right for you to follow.

Turn right, downhill

Eventually you will arrive at a larger trail (suitable for a vehicle), turn a sharp right here, downhill.

Rejoin the tarmac road to the left

At the bottom of the valley you will find the start of a tarmac road which you should follow.

Stay on the tarmac road to the right

Just stay on the tarmac back uphill

Turn left

The end of the actual loop and back onto the road down into Hollenfels.

Cross over to the right hand side of the road

This will put you on the right path for heading back down towards the end point of the walk.

Keep right, down into Hollenfels

You should already be on the right path heading down into the center of Hollenfels, but if not keep right here to make sure you are.

Keep straight on down towards Hollenfels castle

Finally the impressive view of the top of Hollenfels Castle from the crossroads entering the village.
