Hiking at Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park in Tasmania
This is a pretty famous Australia's alpine hiking. It is required to be booked in advance from 1st October to 31th May and costs $200 AUD.
It's 65 km track that usually takes 6 days to be completed but you are able to do some side tracks that can slightly increase the total distance. This waymarked trail is easy to be followed even if you aren't an avid bushwalker.
You must carry your own sleeping gear (tent, sleeping bag, sleeping mat) however you have the option to overnight in the hut if it there is enough room. I particularly slept in my tent only once throughout the way (first night).
Each day of this hike is quite different in terms of landscape which makes it fun and interesting. First day if weather permits, you might be able to climb the summit of Cradle Mountain which offers an amazing 360 view from the top. Third day is the longest one which can be muddy and humid because you are crossing a rain forest. Fourth day is a mountain day. As soon as you reach Pelion Gap you could choose if you wanna climb the highest mountain of Tasmania, Mount Ossa or Mount Pelion East ,which by the way, it is easier and shorter. Fifth day is a waterfall day.
Do not forget to book transport to pick you up in the end of the track. I reckon there is also a bus line running between Lake St Clair and Hobart/Launceston.
